If, like me, you are a music fan(atic), you will know what I’m talking about. Music speaks to me in many ways – the lyrics, the melody, the artist’s interpretation of the music, and most of all, the lasting impression. I love a song that can “speak” to me – whether it makes me happy, sad, and reflective or just puts a smile on my face. I maintain that any artist could sing the most beautiful song ever written; if the song doesn’t touch me, I won’t spare it a second thought. There is a raging battle in the music industry for songwriters to write songs that people can relate to; songs that will make a lasting impression and stay a favorite years from now. A silly lyric that says nothing or has no meaning is usually a fad and will last for the season and then disappear in obscurity, to be forgotten. <br/>Some songs have that ability; songs that, immediately upon hearing them for the first time, sticks in your mind and repeats itself at the oddest of times. A good song is probably one that we will hum under our breaths whilst working at our desks, busy making dinner, or dropping the kids off at school. We all love songs that we can relate to; lyrics that reminds us of certain periods of our lives, and where we can reminisce about the past and maybe even dream of the future. At times, as we travel on this journey called life, we stumble upon songs, and more importantly, lyrics that have a meaning for us. Maybe it has a message for us, maybe it’s a confirmation of a problem we’re struggling with at that specific moment. <br/><br/>I know of some people that would ask for a sign about an issue in their lives, and ask to hear a specific song, and if they do, it’s the answer they’ve been waiting for. I’ve done that too. In my last job that I resigned from last year, I just couldn’t make up my mind if I should resign or not. I’ve come to a point where I couldn’t live with the constant b*tching and backstabbing anymore. I prayed that one morning in late September, and asked for a specific song to play that day as confirmation that I should resign. Just after lunch, at 13.07pm to be exact, my “requested” song played. I resigned that day, and I haven’t looked back.<br/><br/>Not many artist open their hearts and lives, and write about their hopes, dreams, anxieties and fears. There are a few artists though that do just that; they’re not ashamed of telling a story; to write about the things that matters to them, and which people can relate to. Such an artist is Robert Peter Williams. We all know what a master he is at taking any situation that he’d experienced and write a song about it. He is one of the few artists today that has staying power, because he gives of himself. He digs deep and although very painful at most times perhaps, he shares with us his experiences and his take on things. Sometimes the lyrics shock, they repel even, then you get the lyrics that find a resonance within you, and it stays. I would like to share with you just a few examples of Rob’s lyrics that has touched me and made a profound impression in my life.<br/><br/><br/><i><font color="#0000ff">“I just want to feel real love, feel the home that I live in<br/>‘Cause I got too much life running through my veins …” </font></i>- These words always lift me up when I really feel down and worthless, and reminds me that everyone feels like that from time to time.<br/><br/><br/><i><font color="#0000ff">“It will come in your sweet time Lord, I’ve just got to let you in,<br/>The blind leading the blind Lord, getting underneath your skin,<br/>I can feel you in the silence, saying let forever be<br/>Love and only love will set you free.” </font></i>– An ever-so-gentle reminder that ALL things happen in divine timing … it’s just us human that are so impatient!<br/><br/><br/><i><font color="#0000ff">“No regrets, they don’t work<br/>No regrets now, they only hurt …” </font></i>– Self-explanatory really. Regret nothing, because of all those choices we made, made us the people we are right now.<br/><br/><br/><font color="#0000ff"><i>"Send someone to love me, I need to rest in arms<br/>Keep me safe from harm in pouring rain<br/>Give me endless summer, Lord I fear the cold<br/>Feel I’m getting old before my time”</i></font> – There are times, no matter how good our lives are, when we are caught on those “off” days when we feel that we just want to lie down and rest for a while … and pray for someone that will pick us up and help us carry on.<br/><br/><br/><i><font color="#0000ff">“I seem to spend my life waiting for the chorus<br/>‘Cause the verse is never nearly good enough.”</font></i> – I’m guilty of doing this – live my life from on week-end to the next, waiting for that “wow” moment when everything will fall into place, and my life will be fine. Instead, I should live my life in every moment, realizing that all these “insignificant” happenings prepare me for that WOW moment!<br/><br/><font color="#0000ff"><i>"When I’m feeling weak, and my pain walks down a one-way street,<br/>I look above and I know I’ll always be blessed with love …” </i></font>– Probably the most beautiful and inspiring words ever written. These words always touch me, and I know that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be, even if I can’t see the whole picture now.<br/><br/><font color="#0000ff"><i>“If you should die before I leave, what on earth becomes of me?<br/>Look around, there’s no one there, To love me and hold me …” </i></font>– These words always remind me of my father’s passing. This song reminds me to treasure and appreciate my family and friends, because tomorrow is not guaranteed.<br/><br/><br/><br/>May Rob always be there for us, and may he accompany each one of us on our journeys. May we always be blessed with Rob’s amazing, heartfelt and emotional lyrics. May he always be inspired to write touching lyrics, which in turn, will reach out and heal us.
